KWBG Sports for August 2nd

LONDON (AP) - Nathan Adrian made a name for himself by winning the 100-meter freestyle, lunging to the wall to edge James "The Missile" Magnussen by one-hundredth of a second, the slightest margin possible. That once again denied Australia its first individual swimming gold.

LONDON (AP) - Seventeen-year-old Missy Franklin won her second gold, swimming the leadoff leg of the victorious U.S. women's 4x200 freestyle relay. Allison Schmitt and Dana Vollmer also got their second golds, and rounding out the relay team was Shannon Vreeland.

LONDON (AP)- Serena Williams routed No. 13 seed Vera Zvonareva (zvahn-uh-RAY'-vuh), while Maria Sharapova (shah-rah-POH'-vah), Victoria Azarenka (ah-zah-REN'-kuh) and Kim Clijsters (KLY'-sturz) also advanced in Olympic tennis. Venus Williams was eliminated in the singles competition by No. 7-seeded Angelique Kerber of Germany but still has a shot at a gold with sister Serena in doubles.

LONDON (AP) - Four badminton teams were kicked out of women's doubles for trying to lose on purpose to earn an easier matchup in the knockout round in conduct that one IOC executive says strikes at the heart of Olympic competition. The eight doubles players from China, South Korea and Indonesia were cited in the scandal by the Badminton World Federation.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - There was a wild baseball game in Texas last night. After the L.A. Angels scored three times in the top of the 10th, the Texas Rangers answered with four in the bottom of the 10th to win 11-10 on a two-run bases-loaded hit by Elvis Andrus.

KWBG Sports for August 1st

LONDON (AP) - Michael Phelps is the all-time Olympic medalist after winning his 19th medal by anchoring the gold-medal-winning U.S. men's 4x200 meter freestyle relay. Phelps has competed in the last three Olympics, and still has three more medal events at the London games.

LONDON (AP)- It's two lopsided victories in two outings for the favored U.S. men's basketball team, which routed Tunisia 100-63 behind 16 points apiece by Carmelo Anthony and Kevin Love. Next up for the Americans is Nigeria on Thursday night.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - A fan walked around the Philadelphia Phillies' ballpark yesterday with a sign that read: "Will play outfield for food." The five-time NL East champions turned into sellers before the non-waiver trade deadline, sending outfielders Shane Victorino to the Los Angeles Dodgers and Hunter Pence to San Francisco for prospects.

WASHINGTON (AP)- On the field, the Philadelphia Phillies routed Washington ace Stephen Strasburg with six runs in four innings in their 8-0 victory over the first-place Nationals. Kevin Frandsen and Jimmy Rollins homered off Strasburg, who fell to 11-5 with the loss.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Bulls have agreed to a contract with point guard Nate Robinson, who regained his form while averaging 11.2 points and 4.5 assists with Golden State last season. Robinson joins veteran Kirk Hinrich (HYN'-rik) as insurance for Derrick Rose, the 2011 NBA MVP who is expected to miss a big portion of the season while recovering from knee surgery.
