OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Thabo Sefolosha (TAH'-boh seh-fah-LOH'-shah) had playoff career highs of 19 points and six steals as Oklahoma City hammered San Antonio 102-82 to get within two games to one in the NBA's Western Conference finals. Kevin Durant led all scorers with 22 points and helped the Thunder put an end to the Spurs' 20-game winning streak. Tony Parker and Stephen Jackson each had 16 points to pace the Spurs.
CINCINNATI (AP) - Basketball Hall of Famer Jack Twyman has died at 78 from an aggressive form of blood cancer. Twyman starred at the University of Cincinnati and spent 11 seasons in the NBA with the Rochester and Cincinnati Royals, playing in six All-Star games. In 1958, after teammate Maurice Stokes was left paralyzed after a head injury suffered during a game, Twyman became his guardian to help Stokes receive medical benefits.
DETROIT (AP) - Red Wings defenseman Nicklas Lidstrom is hanging up his skates after spending his entire 20-year NHL career in Detroit, saying his drive and motivation are not when they need to be. The 42-year-old Swede is a seven-time Norris Trophy winner and a four-time Stanley Cup champ who set an NHL record by playing 1,564 games with one team.
CALGARY, Alberta (AP) - Bob Hartley is back in the NHL as coach of the Calgary Flames. He succeeds Brent Sutter, who left the team in April after three seasons. Hartley won the 2001 Stanley Cup during his five-year run with Colorado and also spent parts of five seasons coaching the Atlanta Thrashers.
NEW YORK (AP) - A federal judge has approved the settlement of a lawsuit brought by a trustee for Wall Street swindler Bernard Madoff's victims against the owners of the New York Mets. The settlement calls for the Mets' owners to pay up to $162 million but nothing for four years. The deal was structured so the owners will pay much less than the maximum depending on what happens to their claims against Madoff's estate.
