SEATTLE (AP) - The defending World Series champion New YorkYankees have the best record in baseball at 56-and-32 entering theAll-Star break following yesterday's 8-2 triumph over Seattle. CCSabathia (suh-BATH'-ee-uh) held the Mariners to one run in seveninnings and joined Tampa Bay's David Price as the only 12-gamewinners in the American League.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Baltimore Orioles didn't have manyfirst-half highlights but their four-game weekend sweep offirst-place Texas was certainly one of them. The Orioles, who enterthe break with the worst record in the majors at 29-and-59,finished off their first four-game sweep with a 4-1 triumph inArlington.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - In the final baseball game before theAll-Star break, the L.A. Dodgers blanked the Chicago Cubs 7-0 toremain two games back of San Diego in the NL West. James Loney'sthree-run home run got the Dodgers off to a fast start and VicentePadilla (vih-SEHN'-tay puh-DEE'-uh) threw two-hit ball for eightinnings for the win.

MADRID (AP) - A roaring celebration rocked Spain yesterday withsome 300,000 people flocking to Madrid's downtown streets forming asea of red and yellow in tribute to the nation's first World Cuptitle, thanks to a 1-0 victory over the Netherlands. Spain, longtagged a perennial underachiever in soccer, had never before beenin a World Cup final.
