BETHESDA, Md. (AP) - Rory McIlroy, the 22-year-old Northern
Irishman who had the lead entering the final round of the Masters
only to shoot 80 in the final round, takes a three-shot edge into
the second round of the 111th U.S. Open outside the nation's
capital. McIlroy fired a bogey-free 6-under 65 at Congressional to
lead Masters champ Charl Schwartzel and Y.E. Yang by three.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - The Minnesota Wild have called a news
conference today at which they are expected to name Mike Yeo (yoh)
the third coach in team history. The 37-year-old Yeo spent five
seasons as an assistant coach with the Pittsburgh Penguins, helping
them win the Stanley Cup championship in 2009, but this is his
first NHL head coaching job.
BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox are proving to be very
neighborly to the new Stanley Cup champion Boston Bruins, who
captured their first NHL title in 39 years on Wednesday night in
Vancouver. The Red Sox moved their scheduled game Saturday to a
night game so that fans would be able to attend the victory parade
for the Bruins in the daytime.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - On the field, the Boston Red Sox are
one of the hottest teams in baseball, having just completed an 8-1
road trip with a 4-2 win over Tampa Bay. Adrian Gonzalez homered
and David Ortiz, Darnell McDonald and Dustin Pedroia drove in runs
as the Red Sox won for the 11th time in 12 games.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The Washington Nationals climbed out of the
basement of the NL East by winning their sixth straight game, 7-4
over the St. Louis Cardinals, who fell a half-game back of
Milwaukee in the NL Central. Rookie Danny Espinosa cracked a
three-run walkoff home run in the 10th inning for his 12th homer.
