KWBG Sports for June 2nd

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Raffi Torres scored on a
nifty pass from Jannik (YAH'-nihk) Hansen with 18.5 seconds left
and the Vancouver Canucks blanked the Boston Bruins 1-0 to win the
Stanley Cup final opener. Roberto Luongo made 36 saves in his third
shutout of the postseason for the Canucks, who will be at home for
Game 2 Saturday night.

BOSTON (AP) - Shaquille (shah-KEEL') O'Neal is retiring from the
NBA after 19 seasons at age 39 after winning four NBA titles during
his tour with six teams. Pat Riley, the current Miami Heat
president who coached Shaq when they won the NBA title together,
says it was an "honor" to coach someone as talented as O'Neal,
who leaves as the NBA's fifth all-time career scorer and
12th-leading rebounder.

MIAMI (AP) - The Miami Heat can take a 2-0 series lead over
Dallas with a victory tonight in Game 2 of the NBA Finals. The Heat
held the Mavs to 40 points in the second half in capturing the
opener 92-84 in a defensive struggle in Tuesday night's opener.

OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - Not since they beat the A's 14 straight
times in 1956-57 have the New York Yankees dominated the franchise
the way they are now. Nick Swisher's three-run homer helped the
Yanks beat Oakland 4-2 for their 10th straight win against the A's,
who have lost 23 of their last 26 against the New Yorkers.

PHOENIX (AP) - Justin Upton's bloop single with two outs in the
bottom of the ninth drove in the winning run in Arizona's 6-5
victory over the Florida Marlins that keeps the D-Backs atop the NL
West. John Buck's solo home run in the top of the ninth tied the
game at 5 and ended Diamondbacks closer J.J. Putz's franchise
record for consecutive saves at 16.
