MIAMI (AP) - The Miami Heat clamped down on defense and held
Dallas to 37.3 percent shooting in posting a 92-84 victory in Game
1 of the NBA Finals last night. LeBron James led the Heat with 24
points and nine rebounds, Dwayne (dwayn) Wade added 22 points and
10 rebounds and Chris Bosh chipped in with 19 points for the Heat,
who host Game 2 Thursday night.

MIAMI (AP) - Hall of Famer Kevin McHale says he's agreed to
become the Houston Rockets' next coach. McHale, who was coach of
the Minnesota Timberwolves twice in his career, has been working as
a television analyst for NBA games.

MIAMI (AP) - NBA commissioner David Stern says it will be "a
challenge" to reach a new collective bargaining agreement before
the current one expires in a month. Owners are seeking major
financial changes to the deal that expires June 30, and could lock
out the players if no agreement is reached in a month.

VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - The Boston Bruins, who last
won the Stanley Cup in 1972, open this year's NHL championship on
the road at Vancouver, which has never won a title. The Canucks
will be without center Manny Malhotra (mal-HOH'-truh), who is
unlikely to return from his career-threatening eye injury this
season.

PHOENIX (AP) - The Florida Marlins ended the Arizona
Diamondbacks' seven-game winning streak 5-2 behind home runs by
Gaby Sanchez and Logan Morrison. Despite the loss, the D-Backs
retained their half-game lead in the NL West over the San Francisco
Giants, who lost to St. Louis 4-3.
