start in the Big 12 with a 68-52 victory at Oklahoma. Jordan
Hamilton scored 20 for the 21-3 Longhorns, who are 9-0 in league
play for the first time since doing it in the old Southwest
Conference 23 years ago.
DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Fifth-ranked Duke rallied from 16 down to
beat archrival 20th-ranked North Carolina 79-73. Nolan Smith scored
22 of his career-high 34 in the second half when the Blue Devils
outscored the Tar Heels 50-30.
PISCATAWAY, N.J. (AP) - Jonathan Mitchell's four-point play with
less than a second remaining capped a career-high 25-point night
and gave Rutgers a 77-76 upset win over No. 9 Villanova. Mitchell
hit a 3-point shot from about 25 feet, was fouled by Corey Fisher
and made the game-winning free throw.
WASHINGTON (AP) - The pace and intensity of labor negotiations
in the NFL is picking up less than a month before the current
contract expires on March 3. The two sides met for the second time
in five days yesterday and more talks are scheduled for today in
Washington.
BOSTON (AP) - There was a fight-filled, old-time Original Six
hockey game in Boston last night and when the dust cleared the
Boston Bruins outscored Montreal 8-6. Milan Lucic (LOO'-chich) and
Michael Ryder each scored twice for Boston in a game that featured
a combined 182 penalty minutes and even a fight between the two
All-Star goalies, Boston's Tim Thomas and Montreal's Carey Price.
