DALLAS (AP) - The Green Bay Packers beat the Pittsburgh Steelers
31-25 yesterday at Cowboys Stadium for their fourth Super Bowl
victory and 13th NFL championship. Super Bowl MVP Aaron Rodgers
completed 24 of his 39 passes for 304 yards, three touchdowns and
no interceptions for the Packers, who also scored on Nick Collins'
37-yard interception return. The Packers held Rashard Mendenhall to
63 yards on 14 carries and caused him to fumble, setting up Green
Bay's final TD.
DALLAS (AP) - About 400 fans were not allowed inside Cowboys
Stadium for Super Bowl 45 because temporary seating on the third
and fifth levels was deemed unsafe. Another 850 people were
relocated elsewhere in the stadium, while those turned away were
promised a refund of triple the face value of their ticket. About
15,000 temporary seats were added to the stadium in a bid to set
the record for the largest crowd in Super Bowl history, but
attendance fell short of the mark.
DALLAS (AP) - New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady is the
first unanimous winner of The Associated Press NFL Most Valuable
Player Award since the AP began using a nationwide panel of media
members who cover the league. Brady threw for 36 touchdowns, was
intercepted just four times and wasn't picked off over his final
335 regular-season attempts in leading the Patriots to a
league-best 14-2 record.
DALLAS (AP) - NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell (guh-DEHL') says
this weekend's bargaining session with the players' union was
"beneficial," telling "Fox News Sunday" that drug testing is a
key issue in labor talks. Goodell says "a number of" individual
players and owners participated in a two-hour meeting Saturday, the
first formal bargaining session since November.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Pittsburgh Penguins coach Dan Bylsma
(BYLZ'-muh) nodded his head yes yesterday when asked if he was
preparing as if injured Evgeni Malkin (ehv-GEH'-nee MAHL'-kihn)
won't return until the fall. An MRI on Saturday showed the all-star
center tore the ACL and MCL in his right knee Friday night in his
first game back after sitting out five straight with a knee problem
and a sinus infection.
