UNDATED (AP) - The NFL has filed an unfair labor practice charge
against its players' union. In the filing with the National Labor
Relations Board, the league asked that the union be ordered to
bargain in good faith. The NFL says the union wants to avoid
reaching a new collective bargaining agreement by the early March
expiration of the old deal. The league says the union wants to
decertify so it can file an antitrust lawsuit.
NEW YORK (AP) - Kansas has unseated Ohio State as the top team
in the latest Associated Press men's basketball poll following the
Buckeye's loss to Wisconsin on Saturday. The Jayhawks picked up 22
of 65 first-place votes while the second-ranked Buckeyes took 14.
Texas actually had one more first-place vote than the Jayhawks, but
currently sits third, followed by Pittsburgh and Duke.
JUPITER, Fla. (AP) - The St. Louis Cardinals and representatives
for Albert Pujols (POO'-hohlz) have agreed to a 24-hour extension
on contract extension talks out of respect for Stan Musial. The
Cardinals Hall of Famer will be awarded the Presidential Medal of
Freedom in Washington today, and general manager John Mozeliak says
the club did not want to distract from Musial's special day.
Pujols' agent originally wanted a contract agreement in place by
today, the first workout day for St. Louis pitchers and catchers.
VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) - Tiger Woods has apologized after
being fined an undisclosed sum by the European Tour for spitting
during the final round of the Dubai Desert Classic. Woods said on
Twitter that he agreed with the fine, adding that it was
inconsiderate to spit like that and he knows better. Woods spit on
the 12th green after missing a par putt on his way to a 3-over 75
that kept him winless since November 2009.
UNDATED (AP) - The Philadelphia Flyers have added more scoring
to their lineup by getting forward Kris Versteeg from Toronto for
first- and third-round picks in this year's draft. Versteeg was
sixth on the Maple Leafs with 35 points after helping Chicago win
the Stanley Cup last summer. And Colorado forward Peter Forsberg
has announced his retirement following a two-game comeback attempt.
