MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Milwaukee Brewers slugged three home runs
in their 9-6 win to take the opener of the NL Championship Series
against St. Louis. Ryan Braun launched a 463-foot two-run homer in
the first and Prince Fielder and Yuniesky Betancourt each added a
two-run shot in the Brewers' six-run fifth inning.
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - The Detroit Tigers and Texas Rangers
will try again for Game 2 of the AL Championship Series after
yesterday's rainout. Texas can take a 2-0 series lead with a
victory in this afternoon's game with Derek Holland pitching for
the Rangers against Max Scherzer of the Tigers.
FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) -The New England Patriots ran their
streak of scoring at 30 points to 13 regular-season games with a
30-21 win over the New York Jets. BenJarvus Green-Ellis ran for a
career-high 136 yards and two touchdowns and Tom Brady had another
strong game, completing 24 of 33 passes for 321 yards and a
touchdown.
HOUSTON (AP) - The Oakland Raiders wore decals that read "AL"
in silver letters on their helmets to honor Raiders' owner Al Davis
during their game Sunday against the Texans and then went out and
did their late owner proud as they left Houston with a 25-20 win.
Davis died Saturday at his home in Oakland, Calif., at 82.
NEW YORK (AP) - Top negotiators for the NBA and players'
association met last night in perhaps the last chance to avoid
canceled regular-season games. Commissioner David Stern has set
today as the deadline for a new labor deal, or the first two weeks
of the season will be canceled.
