KWBG Sports for October 19th

ST. LOUIS (AP) - It's opening night at the World Series in St.
Louis where Chris Carpenter takes the mound for tonight's Fall
Classic opener against C.J. Wilson of the Texas Rangers. It's the
second straight trip to the World Series for the Rangers, who lost
to the San Francisco Giants last year, while the Cards are in it
for the first time since winning it all in 2006.

ST. LOUIS (AP) - The coolest person at the World Series could be
Texas Rangers Game 1 starting pitcher C.J. Wilson, who recently
spent 2-1/2 minutes in a Dallas cryotherapy chamber, where liquid
nitrogen lowered the temperature to a frosty 295 degrees below zero
in an effort to speed body recovery. Wilson joked that 35 degrees
should be no problem after examining the frigid forecast for Game 1
at Busch Stadium, where game-time temperatures are forecast to be
in the 40s at game time and dropping throughout the night.
OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) - The Oakland Raiders, in need of a
quarterback in the wake of Jason Campbell's broken collarbone
suffered last Sunday, have swung a trade for disgruntled Cincinnati
QB Carson Palmer for a couple of high draft picks. Palmer has not
played this year for the Bengals, demanding that he be moved ahead
of yesterday's trading deadline.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - Kent Hull, who served as Hall of Fame
quarterback Jim Kelly's center during the Buffalo Bills' AFC title
years in the early 1990s, has died at age 50. The cause of death
was not immediately known and Bills Hall of Fame running back
Thurman Thomas called the Hull's death a "tremendous loss."

WASHINGTON (AP) - Tomas Vokoun (voh-KOON') blanked his former
team with a 20-save performance, and the Washington Capitals beat
the Florida Panthers 3-0 last night to improve to 5-0, the best
start in franchise history. Washington and Detroit are the only NHL
teams to win all their games thus far.
