DETROIT (AP) - The Rangers can wrap up a second straight World
Series berth with a win later today in Detroit. Texas leads the
best-of-seven American league Championship Series 3-1 following
last night's 7-3, 11-inning victory over the Tigers in the Motor
City.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - St. Louis grabbed a 2-1 lead in the National
League Championship Series last night with a 4-3 win over
Milwaukee. The Cardinals will host the Brewers again tonight for
Game 4.
CHICAGO (AP) - Theo Epstein is getting another chance to pull
off a baseball miracle. A person familiar with the negotiations
tells the AP that the general manager of the Boston Red Sox, a
franchise whose 86-year World Series Championship drought ended
under his watch, has agreed to a contract with the Chicago Cubs, a
franchise that hasn't won the championship since 1908.
SHANGHAI (AP) - Andy Roddick has earned a berth in the
quarterfinals of the Shanghai Masters, beating 11th-ranked Nicolas
Almagro of Spain 6-3, 6-4. Defending champion Andy Murray of Great
Britain and Spain's David Ferrer (feh-REHR') also are among those
advancing today in China.
KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) - American Brittany Lang is in a
four-way tie for the lead headed to the second round of the LPGA
Malaysia tournament after a 5-under 66 in today's opening round.
