hits as Florida topped the slumping Atlanta Braves 4-0. The Braves
have lost 13 of their last 20 to see their lead in the wild card
race shrink to 1 1/2 games.
ST. LOUIS (AP) - David Freese drove in five runs with a go-ahead
three-run homer and a triple, and surging St. Louis beat the Mets
6-5. The Cardinals have won four straight and 12 of 14 to move
within 1 1/2 games of Atlanta in the National League wild-card race.
PHOENIX (AP) - Miguel Montero's homer sparked a three-run first
inning that included four stolen bases and Arizona went on to beat
Pittsburgh 8-5. The Diamondbacks magic number for clinching the NL
West is now down to two.
UNDATED (AP) - Mike Modano has decided to end his NHL career
after 21 seasons. He goes out as the top U.S.-born scorer in the
league history with 561 goals and 1,374 points. Mondano was part of
a Stanley Cup winner with Dallas in 1999.
JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) - Jacksonville coach Jack Del Rio has
named rookie Blaine Gabbert as starting quarterback for Sunday's
game at Carolina. He replaces Luke McCown who threw four
interceptions against the New York Jets last week.
