UNDATED (AP)- The Atlanta Braves head into their final series of
the regular 162-game baseball season with a one-game lead over St.
Louis in the wild card despite having lost 10 of their last 15
games, including yesterday's 3-0 loss in Washington. The Braves
head into Philadelphia for a three-game series starting tonight
against the NL East champion Phils while the Cards close out with a
three-game series against last-place Houston, which is sporting a
55-104 record.
   
     UNDATED (AP) - The Boston Red Sox head to Baltimore for their
final three games with a one-game lead over Tampa Bay in the AL
wild card. Jacoby (jah-KOH'-bee) Ellsbury delivered a three-run
home run in the 14th inning to give the Red Sox a 7-4 win and a
doubleheader split with the New York Yankees last night as the Rays
host the Yanks for the final three games of the regular season.
   
     LOUDON, N.H. (AP) - Tony Stewart has won just two races in this
NASCAR Sprint Cup season and both have come in the past eight days
to vault him atop the Chase for the Sprint Cup standings. Stewart
won in New Hampshire yesterday and four other Chase drivers
finished in the top 10 -- . Brad Keselowski was second, Jeff Gordon
was fourth, Matt Kenseth was sixth and Carl Edwards finished
eighth.
   
     ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - The University of New Mexico has fired
head football coach Mike Locksley and a school official says
defensive coordinator George Barlow will serve as interim head
coach for the rest of the season. The Lobos are 0-4 this season and
2-26 under Locksley, who was in his third year with the Lobos.
   
     PHILADELPHIA (AP)- Michael Vick is banged up again, this time
it's a broken hand and is availability for next Sunday's game
against San Fraancisco is uncertain. The Philadelphia Eagles
quarterback, who bounced back from a concussion last week, injured
his non-throwing right hand after he was hit hard by Chris Canty in
the third quarter of a 29-16 loss to the New York Giants yesterday.
