ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The New York Yankees regained a
half-game lead in the American League East with a 7-6 win in 10
innings over second-place Tampa Bay. Jorge Posada (HOR'-hay
poh-SAH'-dah) led off the 10th inning with a homer for the Yanks,
who go for the series victory tonight at Tropicana Field in the
finale of the three-game set.

UNDATED (AP) - Pinch-hitter Matt Stairs hit a two-run homer in
the eighth and the San Diego Padres hung on to beat the Colorado
Rockies 7-6. Combined with San Francisco's 1-0 loss to the L.A.
Dodgers, that gives the Padres a game and a-half lead in the NL
West.

UNDATED (AP) - The Philadelphia Phillies increased their lead to
two games over Atlanta in the NL East after nipping Florida 2-1
behind a season-high 13 strikeouts by Cole Hamels. Meanwhile, the
Braves were dropping a 6-0 decision to last-place Washington.

NEW YORK (AP) - The 2001 Major League Baseball schedule is out
with five openers set for Thursday March 31, although one of them
is expected to be moved up to the night of March 30. One of the
interleague highlights is the Chicago Cubs' three-game series in
Boston starting May 20, the Cubs' first visit to Fenway Park since
the 1918 World Series.

NEW YORK (AP) - After Southern California was hit with heavy
NCAA sanctions after it determined that Reggie Bush and his family
received hundreds of thousands of dollars of gifts while in
college, Bush has decided to return the 2005 Heisman Trophy. He's
the first player in the 75-year history of the Heisman to return
the trophy.
