SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres ended their 10-game losing
streak by beating the L.A. Dodgers 4-2 to retain their one-game
lead over San Francisco in the NL West. Nick Hundley homered and
drove in two runs for the Padres, who won for the first time since
Aug. 25.

NEW YORK (AP) - Five-time U.S. Open champion Roger Federer beat
13th-seeded Jurgen (YUR'-gihn) Melzer of Austria 6-3, 7-6, 6-3 to
reach the quarterfinals at a 26th Grand Slam tournament in a row.
Next up for the second-seeded Federer is No. 5 Robin Soderling, the
man who upset Federer in this year's French Open quarterfinals.

LANDOVER, Md. (AP) - Third-ranked Boise State passed what might
be the toughest test on its schedule by rallying past 10th-ranked
Virginia Tech, 33-30. Kellen Moore completed 23 of 38 passes for
three TDs and hit Austin Pettis with a 13-yard touchdown pass with
1:09 left for the go-ahead score in Boise State's 15th straight
victory.

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) - New York Jets cornerback Darrelle
Revis (REE'-vihs) is due to practice today after signing a
lucrative four-year deal reportedly worth at least $46 million,
with $32 million guaranteed. Revis says he'll be ready to play in
the season opener against Baltimore.

NORTON, Mass. (AP) - Charley Hoffman earned his first PGA Tour
victory in three seasons by winning the Deutsche (DOY'-chuh) Bank
Championship, the second of the four events that comprise the FedEx
Cup. Hoffman moved up 57 spots to No. 2 in the FedEx Cup standings.
