SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco is back in first place in the
National League West. The Giants took over the top spot last night
with a 10-2 win over the Dodgers, while San Diego was beaten by St.
Louis 4-0. The Giants top the Padres by a half game.
CHICAGO (AP) - The Minnesota Twins completed a big three-game
sweep of the Chicago White Sox last night. Delmon Young homered and
Carl Pavano got his 17th win as the Twins beat the Sox 8-5.
Minnesota leads the Sox by nine games with 16 left to be played.
METAIRIE, La. (AP) - Reggie Bush says nobody should read into
his decision to relinquish his Heisman Trophy. The Saints running
back says his returning of the trophy is not an admission of guilt.
He says his decision stemmed from his respect for the Heisman
Trophy Trust and all other Heisman winners.
CLEVELAND (AP) - Hall of Famer Jim Brown has confirmed that he
will not attend this Sunday's Cleveland Browns ring of honor
ceremony. The club is going to honor its 16 Hall of Fame members
and Brown is unhappy with how he thinks he has been treated by
Cleveland president Mike Holmgren.
CHICAGO (AP) - Joel Quenneville (KWEHN'-vihl) has been rewarded
by the Chicago Blackhawks for leading them to the Stanley Cup
championship. The coach has been given a three-year contract
extension through the 2013-14 season.
