WATKINS GLEN, N.Y. (AP) - Weather permitting, they'll try to run
the Sprint Cup race at Watkins Glen this morning. Rain washed out
yesterday's race on the 2.45-mile road course and more rain is in
the forecast for today in the Finger Lakes region of upstate New
York.
ANAHEIM, Calif. (AP) - The Los Angeles Angels look to gain some
ground on the AL West-leading Texas Rangers tonight when the two
clubs open a four-game series in Anaheim. The Angels have dropped
their last two to fall four games behind the front-running Rangers.
Eleven-game winner Alexi Ogando starts for Texas against Garrett
Richards, who was pounded by the Yankees last week in his major
league debut.
ATLANTA (AP) - Atlanta has a four-game lead over San Francisco
in the NL wild card race. The two clubs begin a three-game series
at Turner Field tonight with 12-game winner Tim Hudson pitching for
the Braves and lefty Madison Bumgarner throwing for the Giants.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - Randy Wolf faces his ex-mates tonight when the
Milwaukee left-hander takes the mound tonight against visiting Los
Angeles. The Brewers enter on a three-game winning streak and lead
the NL Central by five games over St. Louis. The Cards play tonight
at Pittsburgh.
HOUSTON (AP) - The first week of the NFL preseason comes to a
close tonight when the Houston Texans entertain the New York Jets.
Plaxico Burress won't play for New York as he sprained his left
ankle in practice last week, but Houston will get a chance to show
off its new 3-4 scheme under defensive coordinator Wade Phillips.
