KWBG Sports for August 22nd

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - Police interviewed witnesses and were
searching for suspects after two men were shot and wounded
following a San Francisco 49ers-Oakland Raiders preseason game
Saturday night at Candlestick Park. Calling the attack "completely
unacceptable," the NFL and the mayors of the two cities jointly
called for an end to "intimidation" and acts of violence at
sporting events.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - The San Diego Padres retired all-time saves
leader Trevor Hoffman's uniform No. 51, then went out and played
like champs. The Padres climbed out of last place in the NL West
and finished a four-game sweep of Florida with a 4-3 walkoff
victory to sweep the seven-game season series from the Marlins.
EVANSVILLE, Ind. (AP) - Three-time Kentucky Derby-winning jockey
Calvin Borel (buh-REHL') has been arrested and released on a $100
bond on a drunken driving charge in Indiana. Borel won the Kentucky
Derby aboard Super Saver in 2010, Mine that Bird in 2009 and Street
Sense in 2007.
CINCINNATI (AP) - Maria Sharapova rallied to beat Jelena
Jankovic 4-6, 7-6 (3), 6-3 in the finals of the Western & Southern
Open. On the men's side, Novak Djokovic's remarkable winning streak
ended with a grimace, stopped by a sore shoulder that forced him to
retire in the second set, giving Andy Murray a 6-4, 3-love win in
the finals
BROOKLYN, Mich. (AP) - Kyle Busch is now a four-time winner this
season on the NASCAR Sprint Cup circuit after taking the
green-white checkered flat at Michigan International Speedway for
his 23rd career Sprint Cup victory. That pulls him even with
brother Kurt in career victories.
