KWBG Sports for August 26th

UNDATED (AP) - The New York Yankees are the first team in major
league history to hit three grand slams in a game. Robinson Cano
(kuh-NOH'), Russell Martin and Curtis Granderson connected in the
Yanks' 22-9 drubbing of Oakland, an offensive display that Yankee
manager Joe Girardi called "amazing." The Yanks needed all that
power to stay one game back of Boston, which still leads the AL
East after beating Texas 6-0 last night.
BALTIMORE (AP) -The Maryland medical examiner has ruled former
Cy Young award winner Mike Flanagan died of a self-inflicted
shotgun wound to the head on Wednesday. A police investigation
revealed that the 59-year-old pitcher was upset about financial
issues. He left no note.
UNDATED (AP) - Jim Thome (TOH'-mee) has accepted a trade to the
Cleveland Indians from the Minnesota Twins. The Indians are hoping
their career leader in home runs can help them catch first-place
Detroit in the AL Central.
CORAL GABLES, Fla. (AP) - Miami has determined that eight
football players, including quarterback Jacory (juh-KOR'-ee)
Harris, are believed to have committed NCAA violations by
associating with booster Nevin Shapiro and have been declared
ineligible. That's according to a person with knowledge of the
process.
UNDATED (AP) - Hurricane Irene is already leaving its mark on
the sports world even before coming ashore. Professional baseball
games, the NFL, tennis matches and MLS games are being rescheduled
as the Hurricane approaches the East Coast.
