PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Philadelphia Eagles have ridden the
resurgence of quarterback Michael Vick into sole possession of
first place in the NFC East following their 27-17 win over the New
York Giants last night. Vick threw for 258 yards, ran for 34 more
and a touchdown and led the Eagles on a 90-yard go-ahead drive late
in the fourth quarter that culminated with LeSean McCoy's 50-yard
TD run on fourth down.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - New York Jets quarterback Mark
Sanchez says "I swear it's like 'Groundhog Day"' as he engineered
the Jets' third straight heart-stopping victory, a 30-27 thriller
over the Houston Texans. Sanchez drove the Jets 72 yards in 45
seconds before hitting Santonio Holmes in the corner of the end
zone on a 6-yard TD pass with 10 seconds left.
LOS ANGELES (AP) - Pau Gasol scored 28 points on 10-for-10
shooting, Kobe Bryant added 20 and the Los Angeles Lakers took a
30-point lead in the first half of their fourth straight victory,
117-89 over the Golden State Warriors. The Lakers have beaten the
Warriors 11 straight times.
HOMESTEAD, Fla. (AP) - Jimmie Johnson's runner-up finish in the
season-ending Ford 400 was good enough to claim his fifth straight
NASCAR Sprint Cup championship. Johnson moved past Hendrick
Motorsports teammate Jeff Gordon for most titles among active
driver and now ranks third on the career list behind seven-time
champions and Hall of Famers Richard Petty and Dale Earnhardt.
TORONTO (AP) - The Colorado Rapids are celebrating their first
MLS Cup title after they beat FC Dallas 2-1 in the championship. FC
Dallas defender George John deflected a shot into his own net in
overtime for the deciding goal.
