NEW YORK (AP) - Stanford is the big winner in the latest BCS
standings, moving up to fourth and all but assuring the Cardinal
will play in a BCS bowl. Auburn and Oregon exchange the top two
spots, but that's not a big deal considering both are on track to
meet in the Jan. 10 BCS championship in Glendale, Ariz., assuming
neither loses this coming Saturday.
UNDATED (AP) - Wisconsin is on the verge of its first trip to
the Rose Bowl since January 2000 after the Badgers remained ahead
of Ohio State and Michigan State in the latest BCS standings. Also,
Oklahoma is headed back to the Big 12 championship game to face
Nebraska after the Cornhuskers won the tiebreaker based on the BCS
standings.
DENVER (AP) - J.R. Smith scored a season-high 30 and the Denver
Nuggets overcame the absence of Carmelo Anthony to hold off the
Phoenix Suns 138-133 Sunday night in the highest-scoring NBA game
of the season. Chauncey Billups returned to the lineup after
missing three games with a sprained right wrist and scored 25
points and eight assists for the Nuggets.
ATLANTA (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons are on their longest win
streak - five games - since 1998. Matt Bryant kicked a 47-yard
field goal with 9 seconds remaining to give the NFC-leading Atlanta
Falcons their fifth straight win, 20-17 over Green Bay to improve
to 9-2 with five weeks left in the NFL regular season.
INDIANPOLIS (AP) - The San Diego Chargers returned a pair of
Peyton Manning interceptions for touchdowns and routed the
Indianapolis Colts 36-14 for their fourth straight win. The 6-5
Chargers moved within one game of AFC West-leading Kansas City
while the 6-5 Colts fell into a tie with Jacksonville for the AFC
South lead.
