DETROIT (AP) - Texas Rangers outfielder and reigning American
League MVP Josh Hamilton will miss the next six to eight weeks
after breaking an arm during yesterday's 5-4 loss at Detroit.
Hamilton fractured the upper part of his right arm while trying to
score from third on a popup hit near the Detroit dugout in the
first inning. General manager Jon Daniels says Hamilton will go on
the disabled list and that the injury should heal with time.
UNDATED (AP) - The Washington Nationals have put Ryan Zimmerman
on the 15-day disabled list with a strained abdominal muscle that
has bothered him since spring training. And Dodgers shortstop
Rafael Furcal has been placed on the 15-day disabled list after
breaking his left thumb while sliding after a steal of second
during a 6-1 win over the Giants on Monday night.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The jurors weighing the Barry Bonds perjury
case spent a third day deliberating without reaching a verdict.
They're trying to reach a verdict on the four charges pending
against Bonds. He's charged with three counts of lying to a grand
jury in 2003 and one count of obstruction.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Attorneys for NFL players sat down yesterday
with the federal magistrate who will oversee court-ordered
mediation with the league later this week. The NFL's attorneys are
scheduled to meet with the magistrate today before mediation begins
tomorrow, the first talks since collective bargaining negotiations
broke down March 11. Players have been locked out since the last
round of talks, the league's first work stoppage since 1987.
UNDATED (AP) - Connecticut's Kemba Walker and Butler's Shelvin
Mack have announced they plan to give up their final year of
college eligibility and enter the NBA draft. Walker says he's
definitely going to turn pro, but Mack has not hired an agent and
could return to the Bulldogs. Also leaving early for the NBA is
UCLA guard Malcolm Lee.
