KWBG Sports for April 21st

NEW YORK (AP) - Major League Baseball is taking the unusual step
of seizing control of the day-to-day operations of the L.A.
Dodgers, a team financially paralyzed by its owners' messy divorce.
Commissioner Bud Selig (SEE'-lihg) is expected to name a trustee to
oversee the Dodgers, with former Giants executive Corey Busch and
Braves and Nationals executive Stan Kasten mentioned as possible
candidates.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - On the field, the Dodgers were able to put
the front office turmoil aside. They went out and beat the Atlanta
Braves 6-1 on a Jon Garland four-hitter last night on manager Don
Mattingly's 50th birthday.

ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) - Jered Weaver is baseball's first
five-game winner as he struck out eight in a complete game
six-hitter, pitching the Los Angeles Angels to a 4-1 victory over
the Texas Rangers. With the victory, the Angels take over first
place in the American League West.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Four days of court-ordered mediated talks
between the NFL and its locked-out players have ended, and the two
sides are not expected to meet face to face again until May 16.
Both sides say the resumption of talks has been productive, but
there's no end to the lockout, now in its 41st day.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - Former New York Mets and Philadelphia
Phillies outfielder Lenny Dykstra posted $150,000 bond yesterday in
a federal case where he's accused of embezzling money from a
bankruptcy estate. A disheveled and handcuffed Dykstra appeared in
a Los Angeles courtroom after spending nearly a week in custody,
and was given a May 16 arraignment date.
