KWBG Sports for April 29th

NEW YORK (AP) - Cam Newton completed his personal Triple Crown
last night - Heisman Trophy, national champion and No. 1 overall
pick in the NFL draft. The Auburn quarterback was taken by the
Carolina Panthers, who suffered through a 2-14 season last year
with the worse offense in the NFL.

NEW YORK (AP) - Four quarterbacks went in the top 12 picks of
the NFL draft. Besides Cam Newton to Carolina, Tennessee took U. of
Washington QB Jake Locker with the eighth pick and Jacksonville
traded up to get Washington's 10th pick and took Missouri QB Blaine
Gabbert and Minnesota took Florida State's Christian Ponder at No.
12.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The NFL will start to look like the NFL very
soon. Starting today, the league is opening up its training
facilities to players, who will be allowed to work out and talk
with coaches for the first time since being locked out seven weeks
ago.

UNDATED (AP) - In the NBA playoffs, Atlanta dispatched Orlando
in six games with an 84-81 victory that sends the Hawks into the
second round against Chicago. The L.A. Lakers advanced to the
second round with a 98-80 win over New Orleans and so did the
Dallas Mavericks, who dispatched Portland in six games with a
103-96 victory.

MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Tampa Bay's Ben Zobrist had in one day what
some ballplayers might consider a good week as the Rays swept a
doubleheader from Minnesota, 15-3 and 6-1. Zobrist set a Tampa Bay
record with eight RBIs in the opener and went 7 for 10 with two
home runs, 10 RBIs and five runs scored in the twinbill.
