games of a playoff series for the first time since the 2006 NBA
Finals. Dirk Nowitzki (noh-VIHT'-skee) scored 14 of his game-high
33 in the fourth quarter as the Mavs went 2-up on Portland with a
101-89 win last night in a first-round NBA series.

send that series to Atlanta all tied at a game apiece. Dwight
Howard had 33 points and 19 rebounds for the Magic.
NEW YORK (AP) - Rajon Rondo (RAH'-zhahn RAHN'-doh) scored a
career playoff-high 30 points as the Boston Celtics beat a
game-but-depleted New York Knicks team 96-93 to take a 2-0 lead in
that series. The Knicks played the entire second half without Amare
Stoudemire (ah-MAR'-ay STOW'-duh-my-ur), who suffered back spasms.
Chauncey Billups missed the entire game with a knee injury.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Ryan Braun and Casey McGehee homered and the
Milwaukee Brewers beat Roy Halladay and the Philadelphia Phillies
9-0. The Brewers became the first team to win a series against the
NL East-leading Phillies this season. They'll try to complete a
three-game sweep this afternoon when Cliff Lee takes the mound for
Philadelphia against Chris Narveson.
CHICAGO (AP) - The defending Stanley Cup champs are still alive
in the NHL playoffs. Dave Bolland returned to the Chicago lineup
after missing 17 games with a concussion and had a goal and three
assists in the Blackhawks' 7-2 rout of Vancouver that cuts the
Canucks series lead to 3-1.
