SAN ANTONIO (AP) - Rookie Gary Neal canned a three-pointer at
the buzzer to force overtime and the San Antonio Spurs went on to
beat Memphis 110-103 to win a must-win Game 5 last night. Manu
Ginobili (MAN'-oo jih-NOH'-blee) led the Spurs with a game-high 32
and Tony Parker added 24 points and nine assists.
OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - The Oklahoma City Thunder are celebrating
their first playoff series victory. The Thunder went on a late 18-6
run and eliminated the Denver Nuggets in five games with a 100-97
victory as Kevin Durant matched his career playoff high with 41
points, including the last nine for the Thunder.
UNDATED (AP) - The Boston Bruins and Tampa Bay Lightning
advanced with Game 7 victories in the NHL playoffs last night.
Nathan Horton's overtime goal gave the Bruins a 4-3 win over
Montreal and the Lightning advanced by blanking Pittsburgh 1-0.
NEW YORK (AP) - The NFL draft always is a guessing game, but
tonight's installment is majoring in uncertainty because of the
league's labor problems. It's still not certain what the Carolina
Panthers will do with the No. 1 overall pick - the betting favorite
is Heisman Trophy winner Cam Newton - but who goes where and when
beyond that is anybody's guess.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The federal judge who lifted the NFL lockout
has denied the league's request to put her ruling on hold. U.S.
District Judge Susan Richard Nelson wrote late Wednesday that the
NFL "has not met its burden for a stay pending appeal, expedited
or otherwise."
