KWBG Sports for April 18th

UNDATED (AP) - The top two seeds in the NBA's Western Conference
playoffs gave up homecourt advantage with losses in Game 1 of their
respective first-round series. The eighth-seeded Memphis Grizzlies
knocked off San Antonio 101-98 for their first playoff win in club
history and then Chris Paul poured in 33 points in leading the New
Orleans Hornets past the two-time defending NBA champion L.A.
Lakers 109-100.

MIAMI (AP) - Dwyane (dwayn) Wade did not practice with the Miami
Heat yesterday because of migraine symptoms and his status for
tonight's Game 2 against Philadelphia is unclear. Heat coach Erik
Spoelstra (SPOHL'-struh) says Wade had some migraine signs Saturday
and played through them, scoring 17 points in a series-opening
97-89 victory.

LOS ANGELES (AP) - The L.A. Dodgers snapped their five-game
losing streak by rallying for a 2-1 victory on Matt Kemp's two-run
homer in the bottom of the ninth inning. Kemp homered to center
field on the first pitch he saw from Cards closer Ryan Franklin,
who is 0-2 after his fourth blown save in five chances.

BOSTON (AP) - It's Patriots Day in New England, which means the
Boston Marathon will be run over its familiar 26.2-mile course.
There's also baseball in the Hub with the last-place Boston Red Sox
sending out Daisuke Matsuzaka (DYS'-kay maht-soo-ZAH'-kah) against
Toronto as the Sox try to improve upon their early 4-10 mark.

TALLADEGA, Ala. (AP) - Jimmie Johnson won a last-lap duel to
take the checkered flag in the Aaron's 499 at Talladega
Superspeedway. The five-time series champion nipped Clint Bowyer
(BOY'-ur) by about a foot - or two-thousandths of a second,
matching the closest finish in Sprint Cup history.
