LOS ANGELES (AP) - The L.A. Lakers handed the Cleveland
Cavaliers a 55-point loss in a 112-57 beat-down at Staples Centers.
The 57 points are the fewest ever allowed by the Lakers as they
handed the Cavs their 11th straight loss.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Manu Ginobili (MAN'-oo jih-NOH'-blee) had 19
points, including five technical free throws in a 10-second span of
the third quarter, and the San Antonio Spurs beat the Minnesota
Timberwolves 107-96. The Timberwolves have lost five in a row and
came unglued during referee Ken Mauer's five-technical binge in the
third quarter.
EAST LANSING, Mich. (AP) - Draymond Green scored a career-high
26 points, and Kalin Lucas made three free throws in the final
minute of overtime to lift Michigan State to a 64-61 victory over
No. 20 Wisconsin last night. The Spartans scored the final nine
points of regulation to tie the game at 53, and improved to 12-4
overall and 2-2 in Big Ten play.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - The Carolina Panthers have entrusted Ron
Rivera with turning around the NFL's worst team, making the San
Diego defensive coordinator the second Latino head coach in NFL
history, joining ex-Raiders and Seahawks boss Tom Flores. Rivera
replaces John Fox, who was let go after the Panthers' 2-14
campaign.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - Trevor Hoffman, baseball's all-time saves
leader, has answered his last call from the bullpen. The
43-year-old Hoffman is retiring after 18 years and 601 saves and is
taking a front office job with the San Diego Padres.
