KWBG Sports for January 3rd

UNDATED (AP) - The first round matchups of the NFL playoffs are
set for next weekend. Next Saturday, the defending Super Bowl
champion New Orleans Saints open on the road against NFC West
champion Seattle followed by the New York Jets at Indianapolis and
then on Sunday, Baltimore visits Kansas City and Philadelphia hosts
Green Bay in other wild card matchups.

DETROIT (AP) - Brett Favre's (farvz) illustrious 20-year career
has apparently ended with him on the sideline in street clothes in
the Minnesota Vikings' 20-13 loss to Detroit. Afterward, the
41-year-old three-time MVP quarterback called it "a wonderful ride
for me" and reiterated that this time, his playing days are over
for good.

PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones says he
will decide in the next couple of days whether he'll remove the
interim head coach tag from Jason Garrett and give him the job.
Garrett went 5-3 since replacing Wade Phillips at midseason, and is
believed to have the inside track on the job.

DETROIT (AP) - The Philadelphia Flyers ended a 22-year slump in
Detroit on Sunday. James van Riemsdyk (REEMS'-dyk), Daniel Carcillo
and Scott Hartnell scored to help the Philadelphia Flyers win for
the first time in Detroit in more than 22 years, 3-2 over the Red
Wings for their first win at Joe Louis Arena since Nov. 4, 1988.

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Top-ranked Duke opened its ACC schedule with
a 74-63 home victory over Miami as Nolan Smith hit for a
season-high 28 for the 13-0 Blue Devils. That's coach Mike
Krzyzewski's (shuh-SHEF'-skeez) 881st victory as he moves within 21
wins of catching all-time Division I coaching leader Bobby Knight.
