KWBG Sports for January 6th

DURHAM, N.C. (AP) - Top-ranked Duke ran its winning streak to
24, longest in the nation, with an 85-64 rout of
Alabama-Birmingham. Nolan Smith clicked for a career-high 33 for
the 14-0 Blue Devils.

STORRS, Conn. (AP) - Connecticut's second-ranked women's
basketball team has rebounded just fine from its first loss in
nearly two and a-half years. Following its loss to Stanford last
week that ended its 90-game winning streak, the UConn women
trounced Villanova 81-35 behind Tiffany Hayes' 22 points.

NEW YORK (AP) - Slick-fielding second baseman Roberto Alomar and
pitcher Bert Blyleven, fifth on the all-time strikeout list, are
the newest members of the Baseball Hall of Fame to be inducted into
Cooperstown this summer. In refusing entry into the Hall for
sluggers Rafael Palmeiro (pahl-MAYR'-oh), Mark McGwire, Jeff
Bagwell and Juan Gonzalez, baseball writer voters appear to be
continuing the trend of not allowing bulky hitters who posted big
numbers during the Steroid Era into the Hall.

MOBILE, Ala. (AP) - Miami of Ohio can make college football
history with a victory tonight over Middle Tennessee in the
GoDaddy.com Bowl in Mobile. Coming off a 1-11 year, if Miami beats
MTSU for its 10th victory of the season, the RedHawks will be the
first team in Football Bowl Subdivision history to go from
double-digit losses to double-digit victories the next season.

KAPALUA, Hawaii (AP) - It's that time again, time for the PGA
Tour to start. The first of the Tour's 37 events in 20 states and
three countries starts today in Maui, Hawaii, with the winners-only
Hyundai Tournament of Champions featuring 34 winners from last
year's Tour events.
