PROVO, Utah (AP) - In one of the great individual performances
of the college basketball season, BYU's Jimmer Fredette dropped in
43 as the ninth-ranked Cougars handed fourth-ranked San Diego State
its first loss of the season, 71-58. That means top-ranked Ohio
State is the lone remaining undefeated team in men's Division I
basketball.
MELBOURNE, Australia (AP) - Li Na (lee nah) made tennis history
at the Australian Open today. Na became the first Chinese player to
reach a Grand Slam singles final by outlasting top-seed Caroline
Wozniacki (wohz-nee-AK'-ee) 3-6, 7-5, 6-3 in the Australian Open
semifinals.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The best individual performance of the night
in the NBA went to Kevin Durant, who had career highs of 47 points
and 18 rebounds, and the Oklahoma City Thunder beat the Minnesota
Timberwolves, 118-117, in overtime. The Wolves' Kevin Love had a
big night of his own with 31 points and 21 rebounds.
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (AP) - NASCAR is simplifying its scoring system
and is implementing a straight scoring format based on finishing
position. It will give 43 points to the race winner, plus three
points, and decrease through the field down to 1 point for the
43rd-place finisher.
SAN DIEGO (AP) - After going winless on the PGA Tour last
season, Tiger Woods says he's looking forward to a new start in
2011. He opens his season at the Farmers Insurance Open at Torrey
Pines, a course where Woods has won seven times in his career,
including the 2008 U.S. Open.
