Championship Series last night with a 2-0 win over Cincinnati. The
win gave the Phillies the best-of-five series in three straight. In
the other games yesterday, San Francisco took a 2-1 lead over the
Braves with a 3-2 victory, and Tampa Bay has forced a fifth and
deciding game with Texas with a 5-2 win.
ATLANTA (AP) - Game 4 in the San Francisco-Atlanta National
League Divisional Series is tonight in Atlanta. The Giants top the
series two games to one and can close it out on the Braves' home
turf. The pitching matchup has rookie Madison Bumgarner going for
the Giants against Braves 16-game winner Derek Lowe.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - Tonight's NFL game is being played
in the new home of the Giants and Jets. This evening's game
features the Jets against Brett Favre and the Minnesota Vikings.
INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The NFL's last unbeaten team, Kansas City,
suffered its first loss of the season yesterday. Playing in
Indianapolis, the Chiefs were stopped by the Colts 19-9. For the
first time this season, Peyton Manning failed to top 300 yards
passing as he finished 26 of 44 for 244 yards.
FONTANA, Calif. (AP) - Six races remain in the NASCAR Chase
championship. The winner of yesterday's race was Tony Stewart, who
now trails points leader Jimmie Johnson by 107 points. Johnson
leads Denny Hamlin by 36 points after the first four races in the
10-race competition.
