(AP) - The Pittsburgh Steelers and New England Patriots won
yesterday to pull even with the New York Jets for the AFC overall
lead at 5-1. Ben Roethlisberger threw for two touchdowns and Jeff
Reed hit a go-ahead, 18-yard field goal with 2:26 remaining as the
Steelers downed Miami 23-22. The Pats were able to escape with a
23-20 win at San Diego after Kris Brown missed a 50-yard field-goal
try with 23 seconds left.

NEW YORK (AP) - Minnesota Vikings quarterback Brett Favre
(fahrv) reportedly has admitted leaving voicemails for the former
New York Jets game hostess to whom a Website says he also sent lewd
photos. Fox television's Jay Glazer reports that Favre told league
investigators he left phone messages for Jenn Sterger, who worked
for the Jets in 2008 when Favre was their quarterback. Glazer also
reports that Favre denied sending Sterger inappropriate photos.

NEW YORK (AP) - Oregon has held onto the No. 1 ranking in The
Associated Press football poll, with Boise State staying at No. 2.
The Ducks claimed 44 first-place votes after clobbering UCLA on
Thursday, and the idle Broncos picked up 11. Auburn is third,
followed by TCU, Michigan State, Alabama, Missouri, Utah, Wisconsin
and Ohio State.

(AP) - Auburn has taken over the top of the BCS standings after
Saturday's seven-point win against LSU. Oregon is second despite
being the top team in both the AP and coaches polls. Boise State is
No. 3, followed by TCU and Michigan State.

MARTINSVILLE, Va. (AP) - Denny Hamlin is within six points of
four-time defending champ Jimmie Johnson in the Sprint Cup
standings after winning at Martinsville yesterday. Hamlin started
from the pole and passed Kevin Harvick for the lead with 29 laps to
go. Harvick settled for third and is within 62 points of Johnson,
who ended up fifth at Martinsville.
