NEW YORK (AP) - Texas can trigger a history-making celebration
at Yankee Stadium later today with a win in Game 5 of the ALCS. If
the Rangers can complete a three-game sweep in New York they would
advance to the World Series for the first time. C.J. Wilson is
scheduled to start for the Rangers against 21-game winner CC
Sabathia (suh-BA'-thee-uh).
NEW YORK (AP) - Yankees first baseman Mark Teixeira
(teh-SHEHR'-uh) suffered a strained right hamstring in last night's
10-3 ALCS loss to Texas and is done for the playoff. The All-Star
first baseman was told the injury will take six to eight weeks to
heal.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - San Francisco will look to rookie Madison
Bumgarner to edge them within a victory of their first World Series
berth since 2002. He gets the start in Game 4 against Philadelphia
today. The Phillies go with Joe Blanton who has not started since
September 29th.
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) - Vancouver's Rick Rypien could be in for
some discipline by the NHL after pushing a fan during last night's
loss to Minnesota. Rypien was heading down the tunnel to the locker
room after being assessed a misconduct penalty when he pushed the
fan at the railing who was applauding.
SOUTHAMPTON, Bermuda (AP) - David Tom takes a one-shot lead over
Ernie Els into today's play at the Grand Slam of Golf while Graeme
McDowell trails by five shots and Martin Kaymer by seven. Toms is
subbing for British Open champion Louis Oosthuizen (WUHST'-hy-zen),
in the tournament for the winners of the majors. Oosthuizen has an
ankle injury.
