KWBG Sports for October 5th

MIAMI (AP) - The New England Patriots joined the New York Jets
atop the AFC East with a 41-14 rout over mistake-prone Miami last
night. Patrick Chung blocked two kicks and returned an interception
for a touchdown as the NFL's highest-scoring team provided Tom
Brady with his 100th regular-season victory in 131 career starts.

UNDATED (AP) - There's one more day of waiting before baseball's
postseason opens with a tripleheader on Wednesday. Tampa Bay ace
David Price will throw the first pitch against the Texas Rangers,
the only current major league franchise that's never won a playoff
series, followed by upstart Cincinnati against two-time NL champion
Philadelphia and 21-game winner Roy Halladay with the World Series
champion New York Yankees visiting Minnesota on Wednesday night for
the first postseason game at Target Field.

UNDATED (AP) - Three managers and one general manager started
their offseason by getting fired. The New York Mets got rid of
manager Jerry Manuel along with general manager Omar Minaya
(mih-NY'-yuh) after missing the playoffs for the fourth straight
year and Milwaukee's Ken Macha (MAH'-kuh) and Pittsburgh's John
Russell also got pink slips.

NEWPORT, Wales (AP) - Europe is celebrating its one-point
victory in reclaiming the Ryder Cup with its fourth straight win on
European soil. The first Monday finish in the 83-year history of
the Ryder Cup went down to the final match when U.S. Open champ
Graeme McDowell edged Hunter Mahan to clinch the Cup with a 14 1/2
to 13 1/2 victory over the United States.

DEERFIELD, Ill. (AP) - The Chicago Bulls are rewarding Joakim
Noah (JOH'-keem NOH'-ah) for last year's breakout season with a
five-year deal worth about 411 million. The news isn't as good for
recently acquired forward Carlos Boozer, who's scheduled for
surgery today after breaking his right hand in what he says was an
accident at home over the weekend and will be out about eight
weeks.
