KWBG Sports for October 12th

ATLANTA (AP) - The San Francisco Giants will open the National
League Championship Series Saturday night in Philadelphia with
their ace Tim Lincecum (LINZ'-ih-kuhm) scheduled to open against
Roy Halladay, who tossed a no-hitter in his last start for the
Phillies. Cody Ross homered and drove in two runs as the Giants
nipped Atlanta 3-2 to win the NLDS in four games - all decided by
one run.

ATLANTA (AP) - The San Francisco Giants tipped their caps to
retiring 69-year-old manager Bobby Cox, who ended a 25-year
managerial reign with last night's defeat. Cox was emotional after
the game and goes into retirement as the fourth-winningest manager
of all-time with 2,504 regular-season victories and one World
Series title.

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - The Tampa Bay Rays send out 19-game
winner David Price against the Texas Rangers' Cliff Lee in
tonight's decisive fifth game of the American League Division
Series tied at two games apiece. The Rays are trying to win their
third straight game after falling into an 0-2 hole against the
Rangers, who have never won a postseason series.

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - The New York Jets built a 12-0 lead
early in the second half and held off a furious rally by Brett
Favre to pull out a 29-20 victory over the Minnesota Vikings. Favre
tossed three second-half TD passes to give him 502 for his career,
the first NFL quarterback to surpass 500 TD passes and 70,000
career passing yards.

CHICAGO (AP) - With negotiations on a new contract with the
players going slowly, NFL owners began their fall meetings in
Chicago yesterday mostly in committee meetings. But a plan on how
to proceed in those negotiations with the union for a new
collective bargaining agreement will be the main topic today.
