DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) - Iowa State tight end Collin Franklin has
been honored for his performance in last week's win over Texas
Tech.
Franklin was named the John Mackey Tight End of the Week after
catching six passes for 68 yards in the 52-38 victory over the Red
Raiders.
Franklin also scored a touchdown in the fourth quarter to put
the Cyclones ahead for good.
The Mackey honor is a national award presented by the Nassau
County Sports Commission.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - Roy Halladay etched his name into baseball's
record books by hurling the first postseason no-hitter since Don
Larsen's perfect game in 1956. Halladay struck out eight and walk
just one as Philadelphia blanked Cincinnati 4-0 in the opening game
of the National League Division Series.
ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (AP) - Cliff Lee struck out 10 in seven
innings and Nelson Cruz and Bengie Molina homered off David Price
in the Texas Rangers' 5-1 victory over the Tampa Bay Rays in the
opening game of that ALDS. Game 2 is today at Tropicana Field where
James Shields tries to get the Rays even against C.J. Wilson of the
Rangers.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - Mark Teixeira (teh-SHEHR'-uh) launched a
two-run tiebreaking home run in the seventh inning that gave the
New York Yankees a 6-4 victory over Minnesota in the opener of that
ALDS. The Twins have lost seven straight postseason games to the
Yanks, who try for a 2-0 series edge when they send out playoff
veteran Andy Pettitte against the Twins' 17-game winner Carl Pavano
in this evening's Game 2.
SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - The last series to get started is in the
City by the Bay where the NL West champion San Francisco Giants
host the wild card Atlanta Braves at AT&T Park today. It's a
matchup of 16-game winners, Tim Lincecum (LINZ'-ih-kuhm) of the
Giants against Derek Lowe.
