3-2, ending the Penguins' 12-game winning streak. Scott Hartnell
got the game-winner for the Flyers, who leapfrogged past the
Penguins into the Atlantic Division lead and atop the entire NHL
with 45 points.
WASHINGTON (AP) - Kobe Bryant scored 24 points in 24 minutes and
center Andrew Bynum contributed seven points in his first action of
the season as the L.A. Lakers outclassed Washington 103-89. Bynum,
who had offseason surgery to repair a partially torn ligament in
his right knee, came off the bench and played 17 minutes.
EDEN PRAIRIE, Minn. (AP) - Brett Favre (fahrv) could be back in
the Minnesota Vikings' lineup after having his streak of 297 starts
end last Monday night because of numbness in his throwing shoulder.
Vikings interim coach Leslie Frazier reports ultrasound tests on
Favre's shoulder were encouraging, and that the 41-year-old legend
might just be in action next Monday night against the Chicago
Bears.
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - The Minnesota Vikings are getting ready to
use the University of Minnesota's outdoor stadium for their game
Monday night because repairs to the Metrodome can't be finished by
then. That means the Vikings and Bears will be playing outdoors at
the University of Minnesota stadium for a December night game.
NEW YORK (AP) - A source familiar with the deal says Cliff Lee
passed up an extra $30 million from the New York Yankees when he
agreed to his five-year, $120 million contract with Philadelphia.
The Yanks and Texas Rangers had been considered front-runners in
the Lee sweepstakes, but the Phils wound up with the most prized
free agent of this baseball offseason.
