MINNEAPOLIS (AP) - It'll be a rare NFL outdoors game in December
in Minneapolis when the Vikings tangle with the Chicago Bears
tonight at the University of Minnesota's stadium. Vikings punter
Chris Kluwe (CLOO'-wee) is calling the field at TCF Bank Stadium
"unplayable" but officials with the team and the university
insist it will be safe. The game is being played there because the
Metrodome's roof is still collapsed from a recent heavy snowstorm.
EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) - DeSean Jackson's 65-yard punt
return for a score capped a furious 28-point Philadelphia rally in
the final seven and a-half minutes of the Eagles' stunning 38-31
win over the New York Giants. The Eagles need to win one of their
last two games or have New York lose one of its two to win the NFC
East.
UNDATED (AP) - The Atlanta Falcons and Pittsburgh Steelers
joined New England as teams assured of going to the NFL playoffs.
The Falcons clinched at least a wild card berth and can win the NFC
South with a win over New Orleans on Christmas weekend and the
Steelers are in via a series of complicated tiebreakers even though
Pittsburgh dropped a 22-17 decision to the New York Giants.
NEW YORK (AP) - Connecticut won its 88th straight women's
basketball game to match the record set by the UCLA men, beating
No. 11 Ohio State 81-50 in the Maggie Dixon Classic. Connecticut
tied the mark before a crowd of 15,232 - a record for a women's
game at Madison Square Garden - and can surpass UCLA on Tuesday
night at home against No. 15 Florida State.
MILWAUKEE (AP) - The Milwaukee Brewers have acquired 2009
American League Cy Young award winner Zack Greinke (GREHN'-kee)
from Kansas City in a major offseason baseball trade. Greinke, a
10-game winner last year, goes to the Brewers in exchange for
shortstop Alcides (ahl-SEE'-deez) Escobar, outfielder Lorenzo Cain
and two prospects.
