NASHVILLE, Tenn. (AP) - Peyton Manning completed 25 of 35 for
319 yards and two touchdowns with no interceptions in leading the
Indianapolis Colts to a 30-28 win over Tennessee to end a
three-game losing streak. The 7-6 Colts moved within a half-game of
AFC South-leading Jacksonville and will make the playoffs if they
win their remaining three games.
PHILADELPHIA (AP) - The Temple Owls have ended Georgetown's
unbeaten season by handing the ninth-ranked Hoyas their first loss
of the season, 68-65. Ramone Moore scored a career-high 30 in
Temple coach Fran Dunphy's 400th career victory.
STORRS, Conn. (AP) - The University of Connecticut women's
basketball team won its 87th straight game by mauling Marquette
79-47 behind Maya Moore's season-high 31 points, eight rebounds,
four steals and five blocks. The UConn women can tie the UCLA men's
team Division I record of 88 straight wins when it takes on Ohio
State on Dec. 19th.
CHICAGO (AP) - Hundreds of fans lined up outside a Chicago
church to pay their respects to Chicago Cubs great and broadcaster
Ron Santo, who died last week of bladder cancer at age 70. Santo's
funeral will be held today and the day's events include one last
drive for Santo around Wrigley Field for the Chicago legend.
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. (AP) - The hardware is starting to pile
up for Auburn quarterback Cam Newton, who is the favorite to win
the Heisman Trophy on Saturday night. Newton won the Maxwell Award
presented to the nation's best all-around college player, the
Walter Camp player of the year award and the Davey O'Brien Award
presented to the nation's best quarterback.
