KWBG Sports for December 17th

BOSTON (AP) - The Boston Red Sox came to contract terms with two
relievers as they try to revamp their bullpen. A source tells The
Associated Press the Red Sox have worked out a two-year, $12
million deal with former White Sox closer Bobby Jenks. Boston also
gave former Baltimore setup man Matt Albers a one-year pact worth
$875,000.

CHICAGO (AP) - The Chicago Cubs are bringing back Kerry Wood,
giving him a one-year, $1.5 million package. Wood began last season
with Cleveland before heading to the New York Yankees, where he was
2-0 with a 0.69 ERA in 24 appearances. He pitched for the Cubs from
1998-08, striking out 20 in his fifth major league start and
winning the NL Rookie of the Year before injuries turned him into a
reliever.

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) - Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Matt
Cassel (KAS'-uhl) was limited in practice yesterday and his
availability for Sunday's game at St. Louis remains unclear. Cassel
underwent an emergency appendectomy Dec. 8 and missed last week's
31-10 loss at San Diego that trimmed Kansas City's lead over the
Chargers to one game in the AFC West.

PITTSBURGH (AP) - Michael Haywood is the new football coach at
the University of Pittsburgh after going 9-4 as Miami of Ohio's
head coach this year. He was the only candidate interviewed for the
job, although Pitt also may have had interest in new Miami coach Al
Golden and new West Virginia offensive coordinator Dana Holgorsen
before they took their new jobs. Haywood replaces Dave Wannstedt,
who resigned under pressure this month following a 7-5 season.

MORGANTOWN, W.Va. (AP) - West Virginia athletic director Oliver
Luck says he decided to replace Bill Stewart as head football coach
because a national championship wasn't possible under the program's
current leadership. Dana Holgorsen will serve as the Mountaineers'
offensive coordinator next season before taking over for Stewart
ahead of the 2012 campaign. Luck says he first informed Stewart
about his decision to replace him on Nov. 14 and that he first met
with Holgorsen nine days later.
