CHICAGO (AP) - LeBron James and Dwyane (dwayn) Wade combined for
53 points as the Miami Heat beat the Chicago Bulls 85-75 to knot
the NBA's Eastern Conference finals at a game apiece. James scored
nine of his 29 points over the final 4:27 after the Heat blew an
11-point lead. Wade had 24 points while helping Miami hold Derrick
Rose to 21 points on 7-of-23 shooting.
VANCOUVER, British Columbia (AP) - Daniel Sedin (seh-DEEN')
scored two of Vancouver's four power-play goals as the Canucks
whipped San Jose 7-3 to take a two-games-to-none lead in the NHL's
Western Conference finals. Sedin's second goal came while Vancouver
was scoring four straight during an 8:46 span of the third period.
Chris Higgins and Mason Raymond also had extra-man goals for the
Canucks, who resume the series in San Jose on Friday night.
COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - Ohio State will not have to pay for Jim
Tressel's legal team as the football coach defends himself against
NCAA charges that he knew his players received improper benefits
but didn't report it. The NCAA has charged that Tressel "failed to
(comport) himself in accordance with ... honesty and integrity."
Tressel violated NCAA bylaws and his own contract's stipulations by
failing to immediately report all knowledge of any NCAA violations
to his superiors, the NCAA or the university's compliance
department.
BALTIMORE (AP) - Kentucky Derby winner Animal Kingdom has been
made the early 2-1 favorite for the Preakness Stakes. The horse
drew the No. 11 post in a full field of 14 for Saturday's 1
3-16-mile race at Pimlico. It will be the first time since 2005
that 14 horses are set to run in the second leg of the Triple Crown
series.
VIRGINIA WATER, England (AP) - Eighth-ranked Tiger Woods will
fall out of the top 10 next week, ending a streak of being in the
top 10 for 14 consecutive years. Woods hasn't won since the
Australian Masters 18 months ago, a drought that will drop him to
at least No. 11 in the next world ranking published Monday.
