INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - Dan Wheldon has won his second Indianapolis
500 and his first since 2005 by taking advantage of a mistake by JR
Hildebrand. Wheldon was almost four seconds behind at the final
turn before Hildebrand crashed into the wall and skidded to a
second-place finish. Wheldon now hopes to find a permanent ride
after signing a one-race deal with Bryan Herta Motorsport to
compete in the race.
CONCORD, N.C. (AP) - Kevin Harvick was able to win the Coca-Cola
600 after Dale Earnhardt Jr. ran out of fuel on the final turn.
David Ragan was second, followed by Joey Logano, Kurt Busch and
A.J. Allmendinger. Earnhardt's seventh-place finish extends his
winless streak to 105 races.
HOUSTON (AP) - A six-game winning streak has vaulted the
surprising Arizona Diamondbacks into first place in the National
League West. Xavier Nady (NAY'-dee) hit a go-ahead, two-run double
in the eighth inning before the Diamondbacks completed their 14th
victory in 16 games, 4-2 at Houston. Arizona is a half-game ahead
of San Francisco at 29-24 after the defending World Series champs
lost 6-0 at Milwaukee.
UNDATED (AP) - In golf: Tom Watson holed a 3-foot birdie putt on
the first playoff hole to beat David Eger (EE'-gur) in the Senior
PGA Championship. Keegan Bradley parred the first playoff hole to
defeat Ryan Palmer and earn his first PGA victory at the Byron
Nelson Championship near Dallas. And Luke Donald has become golf's
top-ranked player by winning the BMW PGA Championship in a playoff
against incumbent No. 1 Lee Westwood.
